It’s minor update Monday!

Today we’re releasing minor updates to three of our programs; these are primarily bug fix releases, with little in the way of new features. You can download the latest version from each program’s respective product page, or just check for updates within each program. The updated programs are:

  • Butler: Version 4.1.9 fixes a drag-to-Stack issue, and adds our in-app purchasing module. [release notes]
  • Leech: Version 2.0.4 fixes a problem with ‘shadow’ downloads (which were invisible, but definitely happening), as well as with duplicate downloads, from certain sites. [release notes]
  • Name Mangler: Version 2.2.1 adds the in-app purchasing module, and solves a couple of issues that could arise when renaming both files and folders at the same time. [release notes]

With these releases, and last week’s release of Witch 3.5.1, things should quiet down a bit here (in terms of updates) as we return to work on Usher, Butler, and a project to be named later.

    ZOMG you guys are industrious!

BTW the link for the Butler release notes does NOT go to Butler release notes, it should be this URL:

    Thanks for that — fixed.

Well, as I wrote, you are an industrious bunch, much to my delight. And you know I salivate for anything Butler that may come.

But … I’d love it if at least every few days or every week you’d just say “beep” ;-) like, say, a wetware version of a Dead Man’s Switch, so we know you’re both still alive and kickin’. And I guess some others of your followers users might feel the same. After all, there is a history of non-communication, and some of us may still feel the pain. Know what I mean? So, just saying “hello, we’re still at it” every few days or every week may be a good idea. Even better might be something like a developer blog where you share (some of) the progress you’re doing. I for one am curious about even the tiniest snippet of news about Butler.

    Cordial greetings, Tom

Don’t worry, we’ll let you know we’re still here … with pieces like this one, in fact. (Yes, that was set to publish today, even before your comment!)

Simple and handy, but… But why it doesn’t have rule option “Ask each time where to download”? That is very important and necessary thing for me. If your are planning to add it, I’ll buy it right now…

Thanks for the recent updates, especially fixing the System Preferences menu.

I am wondering if Butler has the following feature but somehow I have overlooked it:

Occasionally I need to open files with an app that is not the default app for opening that file type. For instance I use Preview as the default app for PDF files but on occasion open them with Acrobat Pro. What I do now is have a few AppleScripts set up to do this for the few non default apps that I use. Each of these scripts has a Butler trigger. For example when I trigger the script for Acrobat Pro it opens all of the selected files in the Front finder window with Acrobat Pro. Is there a way to do this directly without calling a script in Butler? If not please consider this a feature request. Thanks.

    Mark:

I’m not sure how Butler would handle what you’re asking it to do. How would you envision this working?
