Note: For those living in the past, say roughly around August 19th 2026 or so, this post will appear timely. For those of you living in the present, it’s old news, as Moom 4.6 has been out since, well, August 19th 2026. It seems someone, perhaps me, forgot to push the Publish button in a timely manner. Whoops.

Moom 4.6 is out, and the big news is its support for placing windows in saved layouts based on proximity of those windows to the layout’s saved window locations. Moom can place windows using pure proximity, or a combination of proximity and frontmost—these two options replace the “any windows” choices in older versions of Moom. These new options are fully explained in Moom’s help, in the section on frontmost/nearest saved layouts, complete with some easy-to-follow screenshots.

Moom no longer considers hidden and minimized windows when restoring a layout that’s configured to apply to windows on the active display, and we worked around an issue where hidden apps’ windows weren’t correctly positioned when restoring a layout.

There are some other minor fixes, too; you can see them all in the release notes. As always, you can update in app by checking for updates, or by downloading a fresh copy of the app (you won’t lose your settings) from our site.
