Controling iTunes

The screenshot at hand depicts a possible configuration of iTunes-related Smart Items.

Butler provides you with a number of Smart Items that let you control iTunes and access your music library:

  • iTunes: Music

Put this Smart Item in your configuration to browse your iTunes music library by artist, album, playlist, or track in Butler's menus. Having an "iTunes: Music" Smart Item in your configuration is also vital for being able to access your music via abbreviation.

  • iTunes: Information

When triggered, this Smart Item will display the current track in a small pop-up window. When browsed via menu, "iTunes: Information" Smart Items will list the current track — along with artist and album information. Moreover, you'll be able to browse that artist's/album's other tracks.

  • iTunes: Start/Stop

Starts playing or pauses iTunes — depending on what iTunes currently does.

  • iTunes: Previous track; iTunes: Next track

    Skips to the previous/next track.

  • iTunes: Volume up; iTunes: Volume down

Increases/decreases the volume setting in iTunes. Please note that this is different from the system's overall volume setting.

  • iTunes: [0 through 5 stars]; iTunes: Rating up; iTunes: Rating down

Changes your rating for the track that currently played by iTunes.
